Maria Pia De Fusco / Maria De fusco | Arts and Entertainment

Maria Pia De Fusco /?Maria De fusco?Chocolate Through the YearsThe story of?Maria Pia De Fusco?chocolate, as far back as we know it, begins with the discovery of America. Until 1492, the Old World knew nothing at all about the delicious and stimulating flavor that was to become the favorite of millions.
The Court of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella got its first look at the principal ingredient of?Maria Pia De Fusco??/?Maria De fusco??chocolate when Columbus returned in triumph from America and laid before the Spanish throne a treasure trove of many strange and wonderful things. Among these were a few dark brown beans that looked like almonds and seemed most unpromising. There were cocoa beans, today?s source of all our chocolate and cocoa.
The King and Queen never dreamed how important cocoa beans could be, and it remained for Hernando Cortez, the great Spanish explorer, to grasp the commercial possibilities of the New World offerings.

Food of the Gods
During his conquest of Mexico, Cortez found the Aztec Indians using cocoa beans in the preparation of the royal drink of the realm, ?Maria Pia De Fusco?/?Maria De fusco?chocolatl?, meaning warm liquid. In 1519, Emperor Montezuma, who reportedly drank 50 or more portions daily, served?Maria Pia De Fusco?/?Maria De fusco?chocolatl to his Spanish guests in great golden goblets, treating it like a food for the gods.
For all its regal importance, however, Montezuma?s chocolatl was very bitter, and the Spaniards did not find it to their taste. To make the concoction more agreeable to Europeans, Cortez and his countrymen conceived of the idea of sweetening it with cane sugar.

While they took chocolatl back to Spain, the idea found favor and the drink underwent several more changes with newly discovered spices, such as cinnamon and vanilla. Ultimately, someone decided the drink would taste better if served hot.

The new drink won friends, especially among the Spanish aristocracy. Spain wisely proceeded to plant cocoa in its overseas colonies, which gave birth to a very profitable business. Remarkably enough, the Spanish succeeded in keeping the art of the cocoa industry a secret from the rest of Europe for nearly a hundred years.

Maria Pia De Fusco?/?Maria De fusco??Chocolate Spreads to EuropeSpanish monks, who had been consigned to process the cocoa beans, finally let the secret out. It did not take long before chocolate was acclaimed throughout Europe as a delicious, health-giving food. For a while it reigned as the drink at the fashionable Court of France.?Maria Pia De Fusco?/?Maria De fusco?Chocolate drinking spread across the Channel to Great Britain, and in 1657 the first of many famous English?Maria Pia De Fusco?/?Maria De fusco?Chocolate Houses appeared.
The hand methods of manufacture used by small shops gave way in time to the mass production of?Maria Pia De Fusco?/?Maria De fusco?chocolate. The transition was hastened by the advent of a perfected steam engine which mechanized the cocoa grinding process. By 1730, chocolate had dropped in price from three dollars or more per pound to within the financial reach of all. The invention of the cocoa press in 1828 reduced the prices even further and helped to improve the the quality of the beverage by squeezing out part of the cocoa butter, the fat that occurs naturally in cocoa beans. From then on, drinking?Maria Pia De Fusco?/?Maria De fusco?chocolate had more of the smooth consistency and the pleasing flavor it has today.
The 19th Century marked two more revolutionary developments in the history of chocolate. In 1847, an English company introduced solid ?eating chocolate? through the development of fondant chocolate, a smooth and velvety variety that has almost completely replaced the old coarse grained chocolate which formerly dominated the world market. The second development occurred in 1876 in Vevey, Switzerland, when Daniel Peter devised a way of adding milk to the chocolate, creating the product we enjoy today known as milk chocolate.

Chocolate Comes To America
In the United States of America, the production of chocolate proceeded at a faster pace than anywhere else in the world. It was in the pre-revolutionary New England ? 1765, to be exact ? that the firs?Maria Pia De Fusco?/?Maria De fusco?chocolate factory was established.
Maria Pia De Fusco?/?Maria De fusco?Chocolate has gained so much importance since that time, that any interruption in its supply would be keenly felt.
During World War II, the U.S. government recognized chocolate?s role in the nourishment and group spirit of the Allied Armed Forces, so much so that it allocated valuable shipping space for the importation of cocoa beans. Many soldiers were thankful for the pocket chocolate bars which gave them the strength to carry on until more food rations could be obtained. Today, the U.S. ARmy D-rations include three 4-ounce chocolate bars. Chocolate has even been taken into space as part of the diet of U.S. astronauts.

Growing the Cocoa Bean
Cocoa beans are the product of the cacao tree. The origin of the cacao tree is in dispute. Some say it originated in the Amazon basin of Brazil, others place it in the Orinoco Valley of Venezuela, while still others contend that it is native to Central America.

Wherever its first home, we know the cacoa tree is strictly a tropical plant thriving only in hot, rainy climates. Thus, its cultivation is confined to the lands not more than 20 degrees north of south of the equator.

The Need For Shelter
The cacao tree is very delicate and sensitive. It needs protection from the wind and requires a fair amount of shade under most conditions. This is true especially in its first two to four years of growth.

Despite 'old school' Celtic effort from Rondo, Miami edges Boston in OT

The Celtics got an historic performance from their point guard, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Heat in overtime Wednesday night. The scene shifts to Boston Friday night.

By Christopher Hartman,?Contributor / May 31, 2012

Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo turned in one of the greatest playoff performances in NBA history, but it wasn?t enough as the Miami Heat won, 115-111, in overtime last night at Miami?s American Airlines Arena. The Heat are now up two games to one in their Eastern Conference Finals series, which moves to Boston for Game 3 on Friday.

Rondo, playing all 53 minutes, had 44 points, ten assists and eight rebounds ? an NBA first. However, the Heat countered with 34 points and 10 rebounds from LeBron James and 23 points from Dwyane Wade (including seven in overtime) to close out the game in the extra session.

Also instrumental was the second-half play of Miami?s Udonis Haslem, who achieved his first double-double since 2009 (13 points and 10 rebounds). His dunk in overtime was the exclamation point to the Heat?s comeback. The fifteen point deficit Miami overcame in their playoff victory was the largest in the team?s history.

Rondo scored all of the Celtics? overtime points. The extra-frame largely resembled a game of ping-pong, with Rondo scoring, the Heat answering, and Rondo repeating. The first Rondo miss of overtime was critical ? he was hit along side the head by Wade under the basket in an apparent foul ? and the Celtics never regained momentum after that.

The Celtics, whose ?big three? of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen contributed a combined 52 points, held a seven point lead at halftime. In fact, Rondo sparkled in the first two periods, scoring 36 of Boston?s 53 points.

But Miami charged back, outscoring Boston 35-22 in the third period, and even though Boston brought it back to 99-99 at the end of regulation, the momentum swing was palpable. And while the Heat were making their move, the Celtics were busy committing fouls ? the most critical of those being Paul Pierce?s sixth and final one with 1:05 left in regulation.

All told, Miami got to the foul line 18 more times than Boston ? though the Celtics completed 90% of their free throws, as opposed to the Heat?s 66%. One reason for this is Miami?s aggressiveness in the post; they outscored Boston 40-30 in the paint. As the third quarter sped into the fourth, aside from Rondo and Pierce, the Celtics increasingly relied on perimeter shooting to carry them through ? though they hit only 5 of 16 three-pointers on the night.

Following the game, Celtics coach Doc Rivers remarked about Rondo, ?He was absolutely phenomenal. Put the whole team at times on his shoulders ? It?s tough to have him play that way and not win the game.?

But even Rondo?s Atlas-like performance couldn?t deter the Heat?s Wade, who tends to excel in big game situations. Having scored only two points in the first half, he took off in the third period, taking advantage both of the absence of guard Avery Bradley, and of his less mobile defenders Ray Allen and Mickael Pietrus. With all his acrobatic athleticism around the hoop, Wade evaded the Celtics defense like dollar bills blowing around in a phone booth. His effort was key in securing Miami?s sixth overtime playoff win against no defeats.

Recreation and Sports Enhance Competitiveness | Recreation and ...

Competition has substantially increased in almost all fields of human endeavor. Despite the diversification of opportunities, disciplines, industries, and professions, there are still plenty of hard working professionals who consider their workmates as competitors. This enhances the competitiveness of every worker in all fields. Such desire to be on the top is often regarded as the highest priority in doing work. Thus, most workers, professionals or not, tend to spend most if not all of their time accomplishing tasks, doing overtime to improve their sales output, and spending the rest of the sleepless evenings making reports. These practices seem to significantly contribute to the success of one?s career. However, these have serious ramifications that lurk within which could cause long term damage not only to the person?s profession, but also especially to his health and relationship. Thus, in doing or performing work, one should bear in mind that although the accomplishment of the assigned tasks are among the priorities, there is nothing more important than to have a good health, strong family and personal relationships, and sound psychological state of being.

In ensuring that the person has a balanced life in dealing with work, career, profession, relationship, and personal needs, it is important that he or she does not confine oneself to the stressful walls of the workplace or any other locations that just reminds or call for serious work. Recreation and sports activity centers located almost everywhere in downtown areas are best outlets to ease the tension and relieve the pains that might have been incurred due to too much stress from work. Activities involving recreation and sports do not only improve the physical health of the person. They also enhance one?s competitiveness because the person acquires a serene and clear mind and thoughts, sufficient supply of energy to perform ordinary and extraordinary tasks, and a positive outlook in life derived from healthy and strong relationships with the family and loved ones. Indeed, these activities are not mutually exclusive from competitiveness. In fact, they are the essential elements to achieve utmost competitive level and be on the top since these activities provide the balance of the serious and fun, and industry and leisure. So if you feel that you are not anymore enjoying what you are doing, try to find some time off for fun and entertainment. After all, life is short and it is not just about work and competitiveness. Having fun, satisfaction, and healthy life are the things that matter most.

In every quest for excellence through high levels of competitiveness, everyone must consider the holistic aspect of their lives. Work or profession is just a part of it. Focusing too much on this aspect would not only be contradictory and self-defeating to the objectives of excellence, but it also poses serious threats to other more important parts of the person such as his or her relationships with loved ones, and one?s physical and psychological health. Recreation and sports activities effectively strike a balance between these essential parts of the person ? demands from work and personal needs.

Help Yourself Feel Better with Anger Management Techniques

Posted on May 27, 2012

Life insurance plan for instance one of those particular: read more without doubt helps for being better, though the helpful hints here are even better. Anger management techniques can be your best friends if you let them. But, as you already know, you are the one who decides whether or not this happens and that is often the biggest hurdle you need to overcome. Some people are in serious denial about their anger problems and that helps them persist for years. Anger issues have a social stigma attached to them and people who suffer from genuine anger problems often wind up feeling quite isolated. Not many people want to be around someone who is always on the verge of an anger outburst. If you have felt isolated because of your anger you should know that there is always time to change things for yourself. In this article we are going to talk about some anger management techniques that you can use to help yourself.

You could be harboring deep-seated anger and resentment over something that happened in your childhood or youth. It?s easy to come to the same conclusion when you think about it and the situation you are currently in. You might even already be able to pick out those situations and know what really makes you angry about them. Letting go of these things, situations, etc can be incredibly difficult. Simply telling you to let go of it isn?t really going to help you. To really let go, you need to genuinely want to do so. Even a genuine desire to let it go won?t make it happen over night, you will have been holding on to it for a truly long time. So you need to practice letting this go each day until it is actually gone. Any time that you want to try to change your behavior you need to be prepared to deal with resistance from your mind. This is really your inner self going into preservation mode. Yes the changes you want to make are better and healthier but that truly does not matter. Try to find some level of comfort with how you?ve been behaving. Everything about you has been supporting this behavior. So, in a way, what you?re doing is challenging and threatening your very way of living. With this thought, you will be better able to understand some of your reactions.

One of the hardest things for people to admit is that they are not perfect. Maybe you?re a revenge kind of person. Behavior comes in lots of basic flavors, but those that have to do with real anger are more complex. Think about the things that you can do within your life that will amount to getting rid of the bad behaviors. People usually have too much to choose from when it comes to this area. It is simply too overwhelming to attempt to completely overhaul your whole psychology all at once. Focus completely on one of the more negative qualities like being vindictive. Then just keep working on it until you?ve gotten over it. It is going to take longer for some anger management techniques to take hold than others. This is because the work you do is being done on the deepest parts of you. So much conditioning happens to us, even by the time we?re teenagers we have many ingrained reactions and behaviors. But you are able to do the hard work and remember it?s for a good cause which is you.

Slow Cooked Cottage Pie | Adeline & Lumiere

This weeks recipe is a doozy. I?m really craving ?comfort food? now the Melbourne winter is creeping it?s way in. The sort of food you?d see on the menu of a good ol? fashioned English pub. I do miss some of the London pubs. Two of our favourite in the South West (amongst others) were ?The Ship? and ?The White Hart?, both right on the banks of the Thames. In summer we would sit there all day and bask in the sun whilst sipping on an ice-cold Pimms. All my friends over in the UK are currently enjoying the Spring sunshine (from what I can see on Facebook), lucky ducks! Technically it?s not even winter yet so I?ve got to embrace everything I love about this chilly season? and comfort food is one of them!

This recipe was partly inspired by my brother. I went up to sunny Sydney a month or two ago for a little break to visit him, as well as some close Sydneysider? friends. The first night I arrived he made a cottage pie for dinner and it was sensational! He used his slow cooker to roast the meat until it was tender and falling apart. This was way healthier than using cheap mince, and more economical as well ? bonus! Slow-cookers are inexpensive, and a ?must have? for all those hearty winter dishes.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and I?m craving a lovely comforting meal for the weekend. All it takes is a few simple ingredients and you can whip-up the most incredible cottage pie of all time! Y-u-m. Because winter makes you crave all things naughty, we made some with pastry as well. These were perfect to wrap up and freeze for nights when we just can?t be bothered doing ANY cooking. With pies as tasty as these in the freezer, I don?t think we?ll be doing much cooking over the next few nights? tee-hee.

Can anybody recommend any other delicious slow cooker recipes?

x e

?

Highly recommend you make these THIS weekend!

Slow Cooked Cottage Pie

1 tbs olive oil
1 brown onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 carrot, peeled, finely chopped
2 celery sticks, trimmed, finely chopped
1kg beef (blade steak)
4 tbs plain flour
500ml red wine
2 tbs Worcestershire sauce
Salt & freshly ground black pepper

Pinch of mixed Italian herbs

6 potatoes, peeled, chopped
1tbsp butter
1/2 cup milk

Puff Pastry (optional)

1.? In a slow cooker, add a little olive oil and arrange all meat on the base of the pot. Add the red wine and garlic and let cook on low heat overnight, or for at least 4 hours on the higher setting (the longer the better). Once cooked, skim any excess fat off the top.

2.? When the meat is cooked, heat some olive oil in a frypan and brown the onions. When they?re nicely coloured add carrot and celery and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until everything looks well browned.

3.? Add all the vegetables to the meat in the slowcooker and turn it up to the highest heat. Add the flour and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes or until combined. Add Worcestershire sauce and let cook for another 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

4.? Meanwhile, cook potatoes in a saucepan of salted boiling water for 15 minutes or until tender. Drain well. Return to the pan with the butter. Use a potato masher until smooth. Add milk and stir until combined. Taste and season with salt and pepper.

5.? Preheat oven to 200?C. Spoon meat mixture into individual ramekins or one large dish. If you wish to use pastry as well (I couldn?t resist), line the ramekins/baking dish/tin and fill 3/4 full. Add the mash potatoes on top and bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes or until mashed potato is golden brown. Serve immediately.

CHRISTINE 23 ONNA were founded as one of Maso YAMAZAKI's projects (like Masonna, Space Machine, or South Saturn Delta), by Maso and Fusao TODA (ex-Angel'in Heavy Syrup) in 1998. This critical electronic duo have given a music strategy for "a fusion of the psychedelic phrases of accomplished guitarist and composer Fusao, and the spacey electronics of Maso (quoted from their website)", quite different from the other projects of Maso mentioned above.

Gradually invaded into my deep brain and instantly broken the tissue structure in pieces ... I'd not been fond of this album indeed, but amazingly it was only a fake. Got immersed in such a loud, annoying atmosphere through the acid sound-garden created by two rox / sex experts.

Consider that their soundscape can be divided into three fragments basically. One is a comfortable "pop" world soiled / violated with a bunch of irritating noise dirts (like the very beginning stuff "Fantasisco" or "The Last Hunter" or so, heavy, deep, and danceable groove numbers along with their catchy sense), one is an electronic ambiance like "Unknown Planet", with meditative, hallucinogenic medication spice (actually this frag is my favourite, where I can get drenched fully in their transcendental meditation with the basic human activity), and one is an acid noisy dirty violation itself (e. g. "Acid Now!", the titled one or the last "Erotopia - The Climax"). Yeah dazzling capricious states of sound can be attractive for us too, let me say.

We can feel sometimes go-ahead-ly enthusiastic, sometimes mysteriously inspirational, and sometimes toughly nauseous. And finally we will get absorbed deeply into their mischievous electronic sound structure with heavy, loud guitar noises and deep, percussive rhythm quakes. Honestly I cannot help recommending this funkadelic electronic explosive album for every freak elektronika. Woohoo.

Oregon State wins Civil War baseball series from Oregon with double-play finish

AUSTIN, Texas ? It?s no surprise that the difference for Oregon in its two-game sweep of Texas on Saturday in the Austin Super Regional of the NCAA softball championships was in the pitching circle.

The surprise for the 11th-ranked Ducks, especially in their 10-6 win in the nightcap at McCombs Field, was that Oregon?s Jessica Moore was so dominating and her Texas counterpart, Blaire Luna, was so bad.

The difference has Oregon heading to Oklahoma City to play in the Women?s College World Series for the second time in the school?s history and left the Longhorns, who needed just one win in the two games Saturday and were playing before their home crowd and in the wilting 92-degree heat, wondering where it all went wrong.

The Ducks ? in their first WCWS trip since 1989 ? will play Arizona State, a team with which they are very familiar, in the opening round on Thursday.

Moore (32-13) pitched 20 of the 21 innings for the Ducks (44-16) in this super regional and at times was on the ropes against the powerful Longhorns, who woke up in time to club three solo home runs in the seventh when it was too little, too late.

?Jessica got a little tired at the end, but we had enough of a cushion late in the game where we could trade solo home runs for outs,? Oregon coach Mike White said. ?This was an emotional and hard-fought series, and we knew Texas would never stop coming at us.?

Luna (22-6), who had been so effective in her past six games (when she racked up five wins, including four in a row), lasted just 2 2/3 innings in the opening-game loss and just 1 2/3 innings in the nightcap.

?I thought Blaire was ready to continue to pitch as she has, but Oregon was patient and made her bring the game to them,? Texas coach Connie Clark said. ?Give Oregon a lot of credit; they made the adjustments they needed to and got the hits and made the plays that made the difference.?

Oregon used the momentum it forged via its win in the first game to pounce on Texas in the second game, sending 10 batters to the plate in the second inning and scoring six runs. The Ducks scored on a suicide-squeeze play, a sacrifice fly, a two-run double by Janie Takeda, a single by Samantha Pappas, another single by Kaylan Howard and a double by Kelsey Chambers.

?Once we got the lead, you could see Texas begin to get a little tight and to want to chase a few pitches outside the strike zone,? Moore said. ?That didn?t last long, but by the time they got their focus back we were ready for what was coming.?

Texas (47-13) cut the lead in half in the fourth inning, batting around and getting back into the game with run-scoring singles by Kim Bruins and Gabby Smith and a bases-loaded walk to Mandy Ogle.

But as soon as the Horns looked to be finding their stride, Oregon reasserted itself. Takeda singled and came home on a booming, opposite-field home run to left-center by Pappas. Bruins was inserted into the circle for Rachel Fox, who relieved Luna in the second inning, and allowed a triple to Howard and run-scoring singles to Chambers and Moore to push the Ducks lead to 10-3.

Pappas, Howard, Kelsey Chambers, Takeda and Peterson had two hits each to pace Oregon in the deciding game. Pappas added three RBIs and scored twice, and Kelsey Chambers and Moore each had two runs batted in.

The Ducks forced a deciding third game Saturday with a 5-4, eighth-inning win in the marathon first game, which took 3:19 to play and was marred by two situations at the plate in which push came to shove and the ejection of both first baseman Kailee Cuico (she was suspended for the second game as well) and Oregon assistant coach Lisa Dodd.

Oregon, which had jumped to a 3-0 first-inning lead off Luna, won it in the bottom of the eighth on Howard?s sacrifice fly to left field that scored Takeda, who had singled to open the frame and stole both second and third base, the later with one out.

The extra-inning heroics allowed Moore, who pitched all eight innings and surrendered four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and five walks) to earn her 31st win.

Oregon left 10 runners on base and had a two-on, no-out chance to win in the bottom of the seventh. After a bizarre play where Alexa Peterson was called out for runner?s interference near second base, Allie Burger lifted a fly to short left field that was caught by Texas? Torie Schmidt. The Ducks? Christie Nieto tried to score from third but was out by three steps, setting the table for Howard and Takeda to win the game in the eighth.

Small business advertising, Marketing, Facebook Fan Pages ...

Small Business Online Marketing and Advertising

Until recently, online advertising and advertising was a thing that the big companies did. Local small business didn?t see a need for internet advertising, but the times have changed. But now searches for local businesses or Local firms have replaced the white and the yellow pages. Quite simply put, if your local firm cannot be found online, you will not grow, and there is a good chance that you will not survive.

The intent of this article is to present some of the alternatives on hand to Local Corporation and small businesses for promotion or campaigning online on the internet. This article will address sections on; video infomercials, classified ad posting, setting up a Google Places account, producing a website and optimizing it for page one result on a SERP, and harnessing the power of the Social Networks.

List and Back page Postings

Free and paid classified ads posting can be very lucrative if done right or a total waste of time and money if not accomplished in a marketing friendly way. The two most popular free classified ad sites are Craig?s List and Back page. Both of these sites will allow text and graphic advertisings. Unluckily most people who own local small businesses do not comprehend the html web language essential to fabricate image ads, so the majority of the advertisings are monotonous black and white text ads. What is more important concerning these ads is that often the search engines unearth them and bring them to page one for precise product or service searches. Instead of carefully reading these text ads the potentially paying customer says to heck with it and goes to the next SERP result devoid of ever finding out what you were advertising; a tragedy! If the text does get their attention, there is often no link to a website or expedient and direct process of achieving more information. This means that these ads are not likely to convert into sales. Those possible prospects at once leave without even finding out what was there. There is no doubt that these free classified ad internet sites generate very good traffic. It is crucial that the small business or the local business owner learn how to write these ads so that they grab the reader?s attention, and which have a strong call to action to cause the reader to convert.

The Power of Video

Did you know that YouTube is a very dominant advertising venue? Video watching is a passion for many. Marketing by video can be a very fruitful means of driving traffic to your small business. Even if YouTube is the largest and most popular video site, it is by far not the only video posting site, there are scores of them; and video can be hosted on your own sit or any other hosting site. Video posting sites are powerful, as you can construct a video infomercial in minutes and straight away have it distributing your special message 24/7. The dominant video tools and posting options today equal or exceed the power of high impact television advertisings. It is even better if you can use a technique of faux List or Back page clickable ads to bring the reader off of your colorful Advertisement to a web page that plays your video totally independent of YouTube. Bringing readers to your site rather than YouTube or some other video site is preferable because the competing local businesses are now absent, and you have complete control of 100% of the content on the webpage. These handsome, eye catching, converting clickable ads can be obtained from professions for about $500, and they can be used over and over again on multiple sites. Don?t have a site to host the video, don?t worry these same professionals are able and happy to host the video and your other marketing material for about $25 per month.

If your Business is not on Page one of a SERP you loose

This is one of the most powerful tools available to local business proprietors, but not the only one by far. This process involves the selection and securing of a marketable URL or domain, developing a page or mini site and optimizing it to be found for specific search terms on the internet. If this is done properly, every time a person searches for your merchandise or service, your business appears on the first page of Google as an ?Organic Ad? and when people click on that search ad they land on your website. Please be reminded, that you can optimize your internet site for a few as one keyword string. Lots of local firms start the SERP optimization process, SEO, with one or two keywords and finance more keyword phrases as they can from the resulting increased cash flow.

Google Places is Powerful

Perhaps the first thing that a Local Business proprietor should do is to set up their Google places account. Google Places is the new name for Google Maps. Google has strict rules on how to set up your Google Places account and how to optimize it, so you are well advised to seek out a professional to help you with this significant task. In certain cases, these Google Places listings actually drive the Organic listings to page two. When your Google places comes up on page one it is a direct line to your local business, including your business name photos of your choice, your business phone number, the street address, website, email address, store or office hours, video infomercials, product descriptions, and much more.

Social Networking Yields Local Business Revenue

SEO today, Social Media tomorrow! Savvy businesses advertise their Face book and Twitter links to attract more loyal customers. Social media is the new WEB 2.0, and it is going to overtake all other advertising venues on the internet. Small business and local business owners who know how to set up and maintain a dynamic Face book profile can benefit from exponential growth. Social media marketing is extremely important and very powerful small business and Local business marketing venues, so much so that they require a dedicated article. Stay tuned!

Questions Surround Biosecurity Oversight of Mutant Bird Flu

A battle over a mutant bird flu strain has thrown the spotlight on a little-known government body that oversees bioterror-related research. Some ask if it was up to the task

From Nature magazine

The packages that started arriving by FedEx on 12 October last year came with strict instructions: protect the information within and destroy it after review. Inside were two manuscripts showing how the deadly H5N1 avian influenza virus could be made to transmit between mammals. The recipients of these packages ? eight members of the US National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB) ? faced the unenviable task of deciding whether the research was safe to publish.

The group deliberated. Soon, the rest of the NSABB's 22 voting members and two dozen non-voting members and advisers were drawn in. For five-and-a-half weeks, they pored over the data in the papers, weighing the benefits of sharing the information against the risk that doing so might lead to the accidental or intentional release of a lethal new virus. They exchanged views in hundreds of e-mails and in more than 24 hours of teleconference calls.

On 21 November, the NSABB recommended that journals should redact the papers, publishing their conclusions but sharing methods and data only with approved scientists and health officials. It was the first time that the board had recommended any such restriction since it was convened in 2005, and it sparked a global debate ? aired in journals, meetings, blogs and newspapers ? that is still raging and has left the US government in an awkward spot. ?The United States funded this research and then wanted to censor it,? says David Fidler, who teaches international law at Indiana University Bloomington. ?This looked dysfunctional.?

Throughout these turbulent months, the spotlight has shone as much on the NSABB as it has on the mutant flu viruses. The board's members, with backgrounds ranging from biology to medicine to national security and law, have been developing guidelines for biosecurity oversight for nearly seven years. The flu research was a major test of the principles they had been espousing.

By all appearances, the board struggled. By mid-February, the NSABB was under pressure to overturn its initial assessment. And in the last days of March, it did ? voting unanimously in favour of full publication for one paper, which appeared early this month1. The board also recommended that the second paper be published, but six members dissented, arguing that the work still posed significant concerns. (That paper's publication is expected within weeks.) The whole episode has left many people with questions. Could the board have done better? Why wasn't the research flagged earlier? And is there a way to publish sensitive information while minimizing risks?

There is one point of agreement, says David Relman, a microbiologist at Stanford University in California and member of the NSABB: ?This is not the way any of us wants to see these issues discussed, that is, at the eleventh hour and fifty-ninth minute.?

Security scare
The NSABB's roots can be traced back to October 2001, when letters carrying anthrax spores were sent to several public figures around the country (see 'Threat and response'). In response, the US government invested billions of dollars to prepare for future acts of bioterror, much of it channelled into pathogen research through the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda, Maryland. In parallel, Congress asked the National Academies to form a panel to recommend how dual-use research ? work that could carry bioterror risks as well as benefits ? should be identified, regulated and reported. Scientists were anxious to show that they could police their own work and avoid heavy-handed or cumbersome regulation from above. ?The science community ought to come up with a process before the public demands the government do it for them,? warned Parney Albright of the US Department of Homeland Security in 2003 .

Automated software has many advantages | Honest Reviews Online

Once booted to a DOS prompt, the FDISK command is used to access the partition map on the drive. From here one can select a partition to delete, then repartition the drive as desired. This method is recommended if you want to unpartition the entire disk, then repartition it. This can be a good time to reformat the drive, though current operating systems offer the option of formatting the drive prior to installation.

Advantages to using the traditional DOS method to unpartition a drive are that it is free and some people prefer to do things manually for reliability reasons. This doesn?t follow if you don?t have much experience working with DOS or the FDISK command. The disadvantages are that the options are extremely limited and all data is lost in the unpartitioned portion of the drive. In most cases this means reinstalling the entire operating system and all programs, as typical drives have one active partition which contains an extended partition that holds all of the logical drives. When you unpartition the drive then, you wipe out all data.

A far easier, and perhaps more failsafe method to unpartition the drive, is to use a software program such as Norton Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director Suite. These programs allow one to easily unpartition and repartition a drive while saving the data. These programs open inside the main operating system, eliminating the need to boot into DOS. Once the user chooses how he or she wants to unpartition the drive, the program takes over.

Automated software has many advantages: it is easier, faster, more flexible with many more options, and retains programs and files. Disadvantages are that the software is shareware (after the trial period, payment is required to keep using the software), and a small percentage of people report problems. Bugs and inconsistencies in operating systems have likely contributed in some cases, but ongoing improvements and fixes are standard operating procedure for every active software program, and most users experience no problems.

In the end, using automated software to unpartition a drive should make the task quick and painless. It is especially handy for combining or redistributing hard disk space among logical drives.

Getting in the Holiday Spirit

10:55 pm Home and Family

Getting in the spirit of the holidays can be tough for some people. Many people insist that it can only happen if they have a real tree and not the best artificial Christmas tree in their home. Whatever your preference you can certainly start getting in the spirit as early as Thanksgiving giving you the ability to move through the month toward the holiday building it up. Take some time to find out what your trigger is for the holiday and use that to your advantage when getting into the holiday spirit. The holidays can be stressful and it is for this reason that some people have a great deal of trouble ramping up. This having been said, those who put the holiday as a fun time to be with family and not surround themselves with the finances of the situation do much better than those who are wrapped up in buying the best gift ever for everyone they know.

Why Do Stay-at-Home Parents Need Their Own Credit Cards ...

I read an article last week on CNN Money with a premise that I found absolutely ridiculous.? The article covered a group of stay-at-home moms (parents?) who were protesting a portion of the Card Act that requires that credit issuers evaluate a credit applicant based on his/her individual income instead of household income.? The result was that some stay-at-home parents with good credit scores have been denied credit cards when they applied for them in only their names.

?

This situation plays in very well with our discussion of joint and separate money management as well as attitudes.? I would venture that the vast majority of stay-at-home parents have joint accounts and money with their working partners and are probably largely or fully supported by their spouses, and that is my assumption going forward with these comments.? My objection is that the protestors? position is logically inconsistent.? They want to apply for credit in just their own names, but they want their spouse?s income to be considered in support of their independent application.? Of course I think that the SAHPs should have access to credit, but to me it?s reasonable that the credit should be joint with the wage-earning spouse.

?

One protester (the spokesprotestor) is quoted as saying ?I think it?s demeaning ? I don?t want to ask my husband?s permission for a credit card.?? I have major issues with this statement ? this woman is either deceiving herself or has a communication problem in her marriage.? Depending on her husband for access to credit is the same thing as depending on him for money, which she must not find demeaning because she?s already doing it.? Or perhaps it?s the asking she finds demeaning, which I think says a lot more about the communication in her marriage than it does about the logic of this legislation change.

?

Remember, the issue is not access to money but access to credit ? as in, some bank?s money.? A creditor needs to have a reasonable expectation that an applicant will pay it back, which is why they do the credit score and income checks.? Without an income, how can they be sure that the account will be paid and whose wages can be garnished if it isn?t?? A spouse can?t be held liable for an account solely in the other spouse?s name, only the person issued the credit (unless they live in a community property state, which the spokesprotester does not).? In this case of non-income-generating SAHPs, there would be less recourse for the lending agency. So it makes sense to only consider the credit score and income of the applicant, not the applicant?s spouse.? Again, all these problems disappear if the applicant and spouse have fully embraced to a joint property mindset and accounting structure instead of playing these transitional/joint vs. individual games.

Frankly, what surprises me most is that people without incomes were granted their own credit lines before!? The creditor is choosing to lend money to someone who is, to be frank, unemployed.? Someone who is unemployed but has access to money could just use a debit card, you know.? They don?t have to borrow money to make purchases!

?

The protestors seem to want to turn this into some kind of womens? right?s/mommy wars issue.? (The spokesprotester again: ?Just because I don?t get a direct paycheck for [my work], doesn?t mean it?s not worthwhile work that I?m doing.?)? But the worth of parenting and housekeeping and everything else they do is not at issue, just their lack of paycheck!? I think that if these parents were secure in their contributions to their families, they wouldn?t find it ?demeaning? to ask their spouses to apply jointly for credit.? I don?t have any problems with single-earner families ? Kyle and I may very well be one at different points in our marriage.? But I think it?s silly to pretend that the non-income-earning spouse is not in many ways dependent on the income-earning spouse, which is what issuing individual credit lines to non-income-earning spouses is doing.

?

Who do you think is more right ? the Card Act or the protestors?? Do you think people should be given credit if they have low or no income?? Does anyone else feel like this was a practice exercise for the analytical section of the GRE?
